AI visibility tools compared: prompt trackers and crawler access
Tools like Otterly, Peec, Profound and Ahrefs Brand Radar tell you whether ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity mention your brand. A crawler-access check answers an earlier question: can their crawlers read your site at all? This page explains the two jobs, lists what each tool costs, and says which one you need first. We sell the second kind, so we link every price to the vendor's own page.
Two different jobs
- Tracking. A tracker runs a set of prompts in AI assistants every day and reports whether your brand is mentioned or cited, and how often compared with competitors. These are monthly subscriptions, because the answers change.
- Access. Before any assistant can cite a page, its crawlers must be allowed to fetch it. robots.txt rules, CDN bot settings (the Cloudflare AI bot block among them) and pages that only render with JavaScript can keep GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot out. You fix this once, then re-check after site changes.
If crawlers cannot read your site, a tracker will mostly report that you are absent. Fix access first, then track.

Which one you need
- You do not know whether AI crawlers can reach your site, or you changed CDN, host or robots.txt recently: run the free check. Buy the Fix Report if something is blocked and you want the exact fix steps for your platform.
- You know crawlers get in and want to measure mentions over time against competitors: a tracker fits. Otterly has the lowest entry price we found; Peec covers several countries and languages; Ahrefs makes sense if you already pay for Ahrefs.
- Agencies with many client sites: run a one-time access audit per site before you put it on a monthly tracker. Tracking a site that AI crawlers cannot read costs money and reports zero.
Where they overlap
Some trackers now include a crawlability or site audit in their plans (Otterly lists one on every plan). If you already pay for one of them, run its audit first. Our check is narrower: it names each of 20 AI crawlers, shows the exact robots.txt line that allows or blocks it, separates training crawlers from search crawlers, and warns when a Cloudflare setting overrides your robots.txt. It is free and needs no account.
What we do not do
We do not track prompts or brand mentions in AI answers, and we do not promise rankings or citations. Allowing crawlers is necessary for being cited, and it is not enough on its own.
Check your site
The free check reads your robots.txt for all 20 AI crawlers and tells you which rule decides each one.
